Boise, Idaho offers a plethora of outdoor activities and beautiful spots to explore with your dog. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day at a dog park, a leisurely stroll through a farmers market, a peaceful walk along the river, or a challenging hike, Boise has something for everyone. Toby and I have had wonderful experiences at these locations, and we highly recommend them to any dog owners looking for fun and engaging outings in Boise!

Together Treasure Valley Dog Island

Located within Ann Morrison Park, Together Treasure Valley Dog Island is a dog paradise. Ann Morrison Park itself has a rich history, named after the wife of Harry Morrison, a co-founder of the Morrison-Knudsen Company. The park opened in 1959 and spans over 153 acres. Dog Island is an off-leash dog park featuring a large island surrounded by water, giving dogs the opportunity to swim and play freely. The park is well-maintained and offers plenty of space for dogs to run around, socialize, and burn off energy. There are also shaded areas and benches for humans to relax and watch their pups enjoy the fun. Toby and I’ve been to many dog parks all over the place, but honestly, this one is at the top of the list!

Weekend Farmers Market

Boise’s Farmers Market is a great place to spend a Saturday morning with your dog. Located downtown, the market operates from April through December, showcasing a wide variety of fresh produce, local crafts, and delicious food vendors. The market has been a staple in the community since its establishment in 1994, promoting local agriculture and providing a platform for small businesses. Many stalls have dog-friendly treats, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to support local businesses. Toby enjoyed strolling through the market, sniffing all the different scents, and sometimes getting a tasty treat from a friendly vendor. It’s also a great way to socialize your dog and meet other pet owners in the community.

Veterans Memorial Park

Veterans Memorial Park is a beautiful, spacious park located along the Boise River. This park was dedicated in 1972 to honor the military veterans of Idaho. With plenty of walking trails, open fields, and shaded picnic areas, it’s a perfect spot for an afternoon outing with your dog. Toby and I loved walking along the riverbank, where he can sniff around and enjoy the natural surroundings. The park also has a large pond where dogs can take a dip to cool off on hot days. The park’s serene environment and historical significance make it a peaceful and scenic location to spend some quality time with your furry friend.

Table Rock

For those looking for a bit more adventure, hiking up to Table Rock is a must. Table Rock is a prominent rock formation and a popular hiking spot that offers stunning views of Boise and the surrounding area. The trailhead is located near the Old Idaho Penitentiary, which adds a historical touch to the hike. The penitentiary operated from 1872 to 1973 and is now a museum. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead as well.

The hike to Table Rock is moderately challenging, making it a good workout for both you and your dog. The trail is about 3.7 miles round trip and has an elevation gain of around 900 feet. The trail is pretty clear but be sure to pay attention to the signs to make sure you’re going the right direction. Toby and I enjoyed the hike, especially the rewarding view at the top, and we timed it so that we can watch the sunset as well.

Be sure to bring plenty of water for both you and your dog, as the trail can get quite warm during the summer months. If you’re going to watch the sunset, then make sure to bring some flashlights for the hike down because it gets pretty dark and you may get lost on the way down. The hike to Table Rock is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors and get some exercise with your dog.

So, grab your leash, pack some water and treats, and head out to explore the beautiful city of Boise with your furry friend!
