Franklin Canyon is an expansive park within the beautiful Beverly Hills landscape with an abundance of picnic areas and scenic trails. It’s a haven for hiking enthusiasts, catering to those with a moderate level of fitness and a love for outdoor exploration.
Directions to the Hastain Trail
Explore the Franklin Canyon Hastain Trail, located at the southern edge of the vast Franklin Canyon. Accessible from Santa Monica Blvd or Sunset Blvd, head north on North Beverly Dr until it splits into Franklin Canyon Dr. Take a slight right for the Franklin Canyon Dr and continue along the small, winding road, exercising caution on the road. Soon, you’ll reach Lake Dr, where you will turn right. Continue down Lake Dr until you reach the parking lot on your left. Arriving at the free parking lot, you’ll find convenient amenities including public restrooms and a refreshing water fountain.
Our Hike
With Toby eagerly leading the way, we hit the Hastain Trail, making sure to hydrate at the nearby water fountain first. The dirt path was narrow, so we went single file, with Toby taking the lead. It had a decent incline, so get ready to break a sweat!
At a fork, we chose the right path to climb higher for better views instead of the left path which would’ve taken us back down. Once we reached a sweet spot with open space, we took a breather and recharged with water. Surprisingly secluded, we encountered only a couple of fellow hikers throughout the entire journey.
Heading back down was a bit dicey, with cracks and crevices from recent rain, but Toby loved the thrill while I tried not to tumble. Lesson learned: hiking shoes are a must! Finally, the trail led us back to Lake Dr, and we strolled our way back to the parking lot.
